Orangeburg is a hamlet located in the town of Orangetown in Rockland County, New York and is about 20 miles away from New York City.
Orangeburg is separated from the Hudson River by the trees and mountains of the Clausland Mountain County Park. The largest body of water within Orangeburg’s boundary is Lake Tappan, which extends into nearby New Jersey communities of Rivervale and Old Tappan.
Orangeburg is a suburban community with residential streets characterized by homes surrounded by plenty of trees. Orangeburg has great real estate with a variety of single family homes and apartment complexes.
The main local road passing through Orangeburg is New York State Route 303, which runs in the north-south direction and hosts many local businesses and buildings. Orangeburg is served by excellent South Orangetown Central School District and is home to Tappan Zee High School and Orangeburg Library. Orangeburg is also home to Dominican College, a private four year college that offers liberal arts and professional programs.
Orangeburg offers its residents plenty of space for recreation. Independence Park includes lighted tennis and basketball courts, playgrounds, and walkways in a heavy wooded environment. Veteran’s Memorial Park includes multiple athletic fields, ball fields, basketball court, tennis courts, playgrounds, batting cages, jogging paths, two ponds, concession stand. Tappan Zee High School includes great athletic fields, tennis courts, and gymnasium open to the public. The Broadacres Golf Club includes a nine hole golf course that’s open to the public.
Orangeburg is home to the Camp Shanks Museum, which was the point of embarkation for over 1 million American soldiers heading to Europe during World War II.
Orangeburg is home to the Rockland Psychiatric Center, a large and notable facility which provides treatment for adults 18 and over to residents of Rockland and surrounding counties, including Manhattan.
Orangeburg hosts a business park of Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile/Verizon Wireless, one of the largest corporate presences in Rockland County.
